More like a home ..... than a hotelguests can enjoy peace and tranquility in the Number 11 guest suite. Two room guest suite with en-suite bathroom and elegant living room decorated with arts and artifacts from the collection of Geoffrey Bawa is certainly a memorable experience of home away from home hospitality.
The living room is an essay in the architect's style and taste. Each object ranging from third century Indian sculpture to modern toys from the Museum of Modern Art in New York is chosen for its intrinsic beauty or amusement. The wall on the left is covered in a magnificent collection of Balinese cloths made during the architect's journey to Bali whilst building a house for the Australian artist Donald Friend. Some of the furniture in the living room are Bawa's own design whilst the bentwood chair is an original Thonet. The easy chairs are a design adopted for the Bentota Beach Hotel, built in 1969.
From the Guest Suite a narrow, winding and highly sculptural staircase leads the guests to the third floor roof terrace and the fourth floor open viewing deck. The partly covered roof top garden is filled with plant in troughs and a green travetrine table on steel legs. Here as the sun sets over the horizon to the west, the candle flames provide light for a quite drink looking out over the suburbs on Colombo. If you can't completely leave the outside world behind, you have the WiFi connectivity in the ground floor area.
